The end of the first quarter is fast approaching-end of October. Please let me know if you are unsure about any of your child’s test grades. I will try to write in their planner each time they forget to do their homework. They have to stay in at recess that day, to finish any homework that was not completed.
Wish list
I can always use more prizes: journals, Chinese jump ropes, books, games, pens, pencils, etc...
Snacks are always welcome,
I hand out snack daily to my class. School does provide snack in the cafeteria, yet students usually prefer to head out to the playground instead.

August Newsletter
Our class if off to a WONDERFUL start. Thank you parents for sending in healthy snacks and germ X -those two things will go a long way to help our students remain healthy and ready to learn. Already this week we have had a popsicle party and are on our way to an ice-cream party (Ask your child to explain). We have our desks and binders all organized and ready to go. Thanks for checking their binders and signing their planners!
Our first Math test for Chapter 1(Place Value) has been graded and sent home, Monday, August 15. Please review it with your child and send any questions or comment back to me. In Chapter 2, we are working on rounding-so, please have your child round off numbers to the tens and hundreds at home for practice.
Our first Literature story is called, "The Hot and Cold Summer", it's a Realistic Fiction (RF). There is a Storytown link on this website that will allow you to review the story with you child before the next test, Tuesday, August 16. This Storytown website is EXCELLENT and also allows your child to read the ebook at home instead of carrying the big book home. This webiste also has their vobust vocabulary words as well as their spelling list-just in case they forget to write them in their planner. Our next story, will be about Jackie Robinson, a female baseball player. It’s our first biography.
We have “NO EXCUSES” words that each child is responsible to spell correctly-the list will grow throughout the year. Our first words are because, probably and awesome. Starting in September, if they miss a “NO EXCUSES” word, they will have to write it 10 times.
We have just finished our Chapter 1 and 2 in our "Hawaii" Social Studies book. That test will be Wednesday, August17. All of their tests should be written in their planners in RED. Next, we will be doing Science in the afternoon-we are studying Volcanoes and Earthquakes. Ask you child about our Read-a-loud book, Vacation under the Volcano-a Magic Treehouse book about Pompeii. I told the class that if they could go to see the lava fields on Maui-they would get 5 tickets. (Not required-just extra support). Tickets are drawn at the end of every month for classroom prizes.(I can always use more prizes: journals, chinese jump ropes, books, games, pens, pencils, etc...)
Please check the front pocket of their binders everyday when you sign their planners. Papers in the back of their binder are to be left at home. I am Loving this Class!!!!!!!
Aloha, Mrs. Paula Schmidt
